The legend associated with Kamada Ekadashi is narrated in the ancient Hindu scriptures, particularly the Varaha Purana. According to the legend, there was a noble king named Vaikhanasa who ruled over the city of Ratnapur. Despite being virtuous and just, King Vaikhanasa was childless and deeply yearned for a child to inherit his kingdom.
Distressed by his childlessness, King Vaikhanasa sought the guidance of sages and saints who advised him to observe the fast of Kamada Ekadashi. They explained that this fast had the power to fulfill even the most cherished desires of the heart.
Following their advice, King Vaikhanasa observed the Kamada Ekadashi fast with unwavering devotion and sincerity. He spent the day in prayer, meditation, and contemplation of the divine, seeking the blessing of Lord Vishnu to grant him a child.
Pleased with the king's devotion, Lord Vishnu appeared before him and blessed him with a son who would later become a great ruler. Overjoyed by this divine blessing, King Vaikhanasa ruled his kingdom with righteousness and prosperity.
Since then, Kamada Ekadashi has been celebrated with great fervor by devotees seeking the fulfillment of their desires and blessings from Lord Vishnu. On this day, devotees observe a strict fast, abstaining from food, water, and worldly pleasures. They spend the day engaged in prayer, recitation of sacred texts, and acts of charity.
In temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu, special prayers and rituals are conducted to invoke the blessings of the divine. Devotees offer prayers, flowers, and sacred offerings to seek the fulfillment of their desires and express their devotion.
