Yamuna Chhath is a Hindu festival that is believed to be the day on which the goddess Yamuna descended to Earth. This day is also known as Yamuna Jayanti. The festival falls on the sixth day of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) in the Chaitra month, and it usually occurs during Chaitra Navratri.

Yamuna Jayanti Celebrations:

On the auspicious day of Yamuna Chhath, devotees wake up before dawn and take a spiritual bath in the Yamuna River. Special prayers are offered to the goddess Yamuna at an auspicious time according to the Vedic calendar. As the goddess Yamuna is known to be the companion of Lord Krishna, devotees also worship Lord Krishna. Special food, known as 'naivedyam', is prepared for the goddess Yamuna.

After the puja, Brahmins are fed, and the prasad is distributed among friends and relatives. Devotees observe a strict fast on Yamuna Chhath. The fast is broken the next morning after the morning puja. It is believed that taking a dip in the Yamuna River can purify the soul and one can also attain eternal bliss and love.
