Fifth Shrawan Somvar Vrat

Shrawan Somwar is an auspicious month for Hindus and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. During the auspicious month of Shrawan, devotees observe fasts every Monday, considered the holiest day of the week. Lord Shiva, adorned with a crescent moon on his forehead, is also known as Somnath or Someshwar. The word "Somvar" is derived from "Som," meaning moon, as Lord Shiva is closely associated with the moon. Many female devotees of Lord Shiva commence the 16 Somvar fast on the first Sawan Somvar and continue it for 16 consecutive Mondays.

Significance:

According to Hindu scriptures, the month of Shrawan holds immense significance for unmarried devotees. It is believed that those who worship Lord Shiva with utmost devotion and dedication during the Shravan month will be blessed with their desired life partner or fulfillment of their wishes. Lord Shiva, also known as Bholenath (the innocent one), is always compassionate and fulfills the desires of his devotees.

Puranic legends narrate that Lord Shiva visits his in-laws' house during the Shravan month and resides there with his consort, Goddess Parvati. Once, Lord Shiva promised Prajapati Daksha that he would visit his place during the Shravan month and stay there for the entire month. Therefore, a large number of devotees throng the Dakshineshwar Mahadev Temple during the Shravan month to worship Lord Shiva.
